The newest AWS Healthcare Accelerator has been introduced by Amazon Web Services and KidsX in an effort to address health inequities throughout the world. A batch of 10 startup firms looking to utilize AWS to address population health concerns and inequities will be chosen for the four-week technical, business, and mentorship program.

Startups working to improve access to healthcare services, address socioeconomic determinants of health inequalities, or use data to support inclusive and equitable healthcare delivery systems will all be taken into consideration. Startups that wish to participate must be privately held, have a digital health software solution, and be able to devote 10 to 15 hours per week for the duration of the four-week program.

Through the accelerator, entrepreneurs may use the strength of AWS’ cloud technologies to increase fairness and access to healthcare. More than 50 hours of assistance, AWS Promotional Credits, and access to both the AWS and KidsX worldwide networks will be given to participants so they may network with venture capital companies and pursue collaborations and trial projects.

The cohort will interact with professionals in the healthcare sector on subjects including developing business models, regulatory processes, clinical validation, and the integration of electronic health records in addition to working with AWS technical specialists to design and expand their cloud solution. AWS and KidsX will keep in touch with participants after the accelerator to track their development.

Methods the Cloud is Using to Address Health Equity

The accelerator expands on previous initiatives taken by AWS to address health fairness and access, including the $40 million, three-year worldwide commitment known as the AWS Health Equity Initiative, which aims to foster digital health breakthroughs.

The project has provided funding for the m-mama program of the Vodafone Foundation, the WelTel digital health communication platform, and the Roundtrip technology for transportation coordination.

M-mama is an urgent rural transportation service that links expectant mothers and babies in East and Southeast Africa to life-saving care in Tanzania and Lesotho. It links patients with a network of nearby taxi drivers using mobile technology.

To grow its digital health communication platform, WelTel employs AWS. Patients don’t require an internet connection or a data plan to obtain care since the technology uses their mobile phones and two-way text messaging to link them to their providers.

Through better patient transportation, Roundtrip aims to increase healthcare access. The business provides medical practitioners with web and mobile technologies that make ordering patient trips easier by utilizing AWS.
